Fatal Georgia crash claims 2 lives

Authorities were called to two multi-vehicle crashes in Lawrenceville on March 16. The accidents happened around the same time and not far from each other, resulting in the injury of two people and the deaths of two others.

At about 7:30 a.m., a car wreck involving a passenger car and a garbage truck occurred in the westbound lanes of Georgia Highway 316 near Harbins Road. Authorities had to close all of the westbound lanes for a period. No fatalities were reported in the accident, but police say that at least one person suffered serious injuries. Rescue crews were also working to free another occupant in one of the vehicles.

The other wreck occurred just north of the highway near Cripple Creek Drive on Buford Drive. Police say that a 50-year-old woman was driving north on Buford Drive in a Buick LeSabre when she crossed into southbound traffic where she collided head-on with a Toyota Camry. Also involved in the crash were a Honda Accord and a Ford pickup. Morning rush-hour traffic was backed up in both directions as police investigated the scene.

The LeSabre driver and 42-year-old male driver of the Camry died in the accident. The driver of the Accord was treated and released at a local hospital while the pickup truck driver was unharmed. Authorities say that speed was definitely a factor in the crash, and witnesses say that the LeSabre driver was driving erratically, traveling faster than 100 mph and may have ran through some red lights.

Head-on collisions are some of the most serious and have a higher risk of fatality than other types of crashes. When vehicle occupants are killed in accidents resulting from the negligence of others, the surviving spouse and children could bring a wrongful death action against the liable individuals. They may get help navigating the process from personal injury attorneys.
